Enriched cage eggs
Hens laying eggs have a roost, a claw line and a litter area. The hens live on the Nikula farm throughout their lives and are fed no fish flour, only Finnish grains.
Box sizes: 8, 10 and 15
As well as different sizes packages in plastic wrap.
Cage-free eggs
Our cage-free hens eggs are produced on our neighbouring farms, in modern floor and floor-standing henhouses. The henhouses hold up to 9 hens per m2, and the birds have the opportunity to peck and explore and bathe in sand and litter.
Box sizes: 4,6,8,10,15
As well as different sizes packages in plastic wrap.
Organic chicken eggs
Organic chickens eat only feed made from organic grains and are allowed to pasture from early summer until late autumn. They are offered enrichment in the pastureand. They live more freely (6 chickens/m2) than other hens in their windowed henhouses.
Box sizes: 4,6,10
As well as different sizes packages in plastic wrap.
Free-range eggs
Chickens that lay free-range eggs are allowed to move around even more freely than cage-free hens. As well as being able to roam in the henhouse, the birds have access to outdoor exercise all year round and are fed on a diet rich in local grains and feed.
Box sizes: 4 and 10
As well as different sizes packages in plastic wrap.
Eggs that just taste better
Eggs from the Nikula farm taste particularly good for a good reason. No fish flour is used at all in the feeding of our chickens. Instead, our feed is rich in domestic grains and essential vitamins and trace elements for chickens. Our chickens live their entire lives on our farm and are never given antibiotics.
How to read the code in the eggshell
When you look at a Finnish egg, you will notice a series of numbers. The first number indicates the type of production: 0=organic, 1=free range, 2=cage-free range and 3= enriched cage.
The next letters indicate the country of origin of the eggs, which for Finnish eggs is FI. Lastly, you will find the 4-5 digit producer number, which tells you where the eggs originate.
